A Secret Paradise (But not for long...)

The new Puerto Vallarta - Guadalajara toll road comes within a short distance of Chacala, making the quiet town a newly coveted and fast-growing destination. Once overlooked as an oasis for travelers and investors, Chacala’s anonymity is becoming a thing of the past. Within a few miles of Chacala a high-speed ferry port is under construction which will usher travelers to the emerging Islas Marias. The Ritz Carlton also has a project underway, just to the South of Chacala. This is part of a larger development, Costa Canuva, which will feature a large marina and PGA level golf course, and many resort hotels.

EcoTourism and Adventure

Chacala is a sanctuary for nature lovers and adventurers alike. The village is situated within the bounds of the Nayarit Riviera, a region known for its rich biodiversity. Hiking trails wind through the verdant jungles, revealing a wide array of exotic flowering plants, ancient trees, and diverse animals. Birdwatchers come from around the world for the opportunity to spot migrating and other indigenous species. December through April whale watching tours afford the opportunity to witness these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. You’ll find Chacala's coast to be a paddleboarder's paradise with miles of enchanted coastline worth exploring.

Culture and History

Once an important and bustling Spanish port, Chacala met its fate in the late 1600s when a volcanic eruption buried the town. It wasn't until as recent as 1998 that the paved road to Chacala was reconstructed, sparking a remarkable revival of this tropical paradise. Numerous gatherings are held to honor the rich heritage of the indigenous peoples, while the Chacala Cultural Foundation orchestrates vibrant festivals celebrating literature, music, gastronomy, and art.
